Rewiring Leadership

Your Love Language Informs Your Leadership Style

Initially in love, many of us have perhaps been inspired to learn to say “I love you” in many different languages.

Eventually, we realize that how we express love is deeply individual and it is way more nuanced than just saying “I love you” in the language of the moment.

Most often how we tend to express love also informs our expression of empathy at the workplace and our ability to build a connection.

Given below are my twists on love languages:

  • Hugs & Touches

When a silent hug or a gentle touch goes a long way for you.

  • Provider’s joy

When all your attention is on providing for your loved ones – whether they are your children, team members, or friends, you thrive on ensuring your loved ones are well provided for.

  • Healthily Healthy

When you find yourself not taking any shortcuts when it comes to food habits or health habits of your loved ones eg healthy eating, nature walks, exercise, etc

  • Communicate, Communicate

When you are quite particular about keeping an open channel of communication with your loved ones, where transparency, updates, and being in touch makes you feel safe and secure.

  • Presence is a ‘Present’

When just being with your loved ones feels enough (even if it is in silence) and when you ensure you are fully present for your loved ones despite obstacles.

  • Gift (a Recognition)

When you find joy in acknowledging those you love, with a (surprise) gift – big or small.

  • Leave it all to Grace (this is a new addition)

When you find yourself saying silent prayers for your loved ones more regularly.

There is no right or wrong love language. Expressing it well is all that matters!

It is also possible that your love language is not the same as your loved one’s. How to navigate that is for another post.

For this Valentine’s Day, recognize and practice a particular love language not only towards your loved ones but also towards your own self.
